GREAT DEALS A few of NYC’s biggest expenses to kick and to keep

Accommodations

It’s no secret that New York City is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Whether you’re visiting the Big Apple for a weekend getaway or moving here permanently for a new job, accommodations are going to be one of the biggest expenses. From hotels to Airbnb, rent prices seem to increase month by month, year by year in the city that never sleeps. Since where you decide to live or stay in New York City will have a significant impact on how you experience and navigate the city it’s okay to spend a little extra money on an apartment where you feel comfortable and still be able to explore the endless city.

Transportation

As in any city, much of what you spend will be determined by the average cost of living in that city along with your own lifestyle. While it may be tempting to take an Uber to and from work each day, just be aware that you may spend more on transportation than accommodations. However, if you can afford to pay for more convenient transportation, then perhaps it's worth it to avoid riding twenty stops on the subway in the middle of winter. If you drive your own car, be prepared to spend a lot of money on parking.

Food

Depending on the neighborhood and the type of restaurant, eating out in New York City can be extremely expensive compared to other major cities in the United States. While it may be tempting to dine out at that new Michelin 5 star eatery, there's always an abundance of less expensive, delicious street food in each and every borough of New York City. From Mexican to Chinese food, New York City has some of the most diverse and delicious street food, not just in the U.S. but in the entire world.

Shopping

When you walk on the streets of New York City and gaze at all the advertisements in Times Square it seems that there's a clothing store or shopping district on every corner. From Gucci’s newest collection of women’s wear to Pandora’s new line of jewelry the temptation to buy new things is always present. By preventing yourself from impulse shopping and waiting to buy something until you know you really have to have it, or by shopping online instead of on the streets, you’ll save yourself hundreds, if not, thousands of dollars on merchandise each month.
